It is essential to gain experience in your desired field whilst at university.
The timetabling and number of hours allocated to lectures are minimal for time to complete university work, and more importantly, to gain some vital experience.
The first thing you’ll need to do is:
Create/ update your CV
The internet is a great starting point. Research your desired field and the skills required. A good website is prospects.ac.uk. Once you’ve completed it, be sure to get someone to proofread or edit it. Aetos Rising offers these services, or find the careers advisor at your university.

Volunteer: commit yourself to some community work
Ask ask ask! Physically go to employers, speak to them about opportunities and sell yourself. Even if they haven’t got many openings/ opportunities, they may allow you to do some shadowing or work something out to your benefit.
Ensure that your part-time job/ volunteering isn’t interfering with your education or mental health. Employers will understand if you’ve got deadlines or you’re feeling overwhelmed, if you need some time off or an adjusted rota, let it be known to your employer.
Lastly,
Don't Give Up!
Keep searching for opportunities near you because experience can help to bring clarity to future decisions and show your commitment to that industry.
We wish you all the best in your academic year, from Aetos Rising.
