My story in Education began by a realisation on Staff Training Day. I had recently graduated from My Masters and desperately needed a job. A recruiter reached out and offered me a job as a Teaching Assistant. I thought great! I need the money anyway...

As soon as they realised my skillset and degree qualifications I was almost immediately offered a role as an Unqualified Teacher. I was thrown straight into the deep end. In my first meeting, a presentation about EAL students made me identify and recognise the young girl in me who joined a school in Year 8 straight from Athens Greece. In that moment I realised the journey I had been on and the progress I had made.

After many tears, stressful days, incidents and some mediocre lessons later, I trained for a year whilst working and obtained my Qualified Teacher Status with Outstanding! I say all this to demonstrate that in my experience within Secondary Education for over 7  years I have seen first hand the systemic barriers to young people's success especially those of low socioeconomic backgrounds and ethnic minorities.

 

Aetos Rising was birthed through my passion to support young people, enrich their lives and empower them with knowledge to make informed decisions. By providing Insight, Access, Education and Empowerment. Collaborating with schools, parents, young people, local communities and businesses we will bridge gaps and help young people to Soar!
